BROTHERS BBQ

“A little bit of love in every dish”

Have you noticed the appetising smells coming out from The George lately? Brothers BBQ are putting the Hip Hop into chip shop, bringing some extra flavour to Chesham with an innovative spin on street food with community spirit

Joining the ranks of Chesham’s entrepreneurial souls, Jay and K-Pryme bring us the most delicious grills and wraps, with enough yum to to rival your mum’s Sunday roast. Fresh, and straight off the grill.

You’ll find them upstairs in The George and Dragon, Chesham’s oldest pub dating back to the 1600’s.  It seems fitting to have this fresh take on the space, a central site where over the span of four centuries, people have come here to eat and drink together. No doubt the scene of many a local tale and legend, with its dark wood panelling and Dickensian feel, Brothers BBQ has a cosy, private atmosphere, with corners to hide in and tables to share.

The George has always been a space for music and Brothers BBQ embody this legacy, with their musically themed decor and vinyl decks to mess about on and old hip hop classics, drifting out on the mouth watering smells wafting from the kitchen.

“Jay is a genius Chef for that street food style”

Originally from Ipswich, Jay first moved to Chesham to be nearer Watford, where he set up his first restaurant with his brother Rae. Following a venue closure and need for relocation, Jay approached The George, seeing it as the heart of Chesham and with a good energy, the perfect place to start a new venture.

Jay’s design is for Brothers BBQ to become somewhere people can come to just relax and get away from their stresses. There’s a pool table, retro gaming, music, film nights and of course the mouth watering wraps and burgers to order. Sweet.

You can see Jay’s honest and aspirational energy spread through to his employment of those with creativity, ambition and shared values. A 21st century business, he fuels those who work with him to pursue their own goals and personal projects, alongside working at Brothers BBQ. More mentor than manager.

Jay’s business partner K-Pryme, a musician, beat maker and DJ/producer, turns up the volume on the duo’s creativity. It’s not a regular sentence to hear – ‘originally from LA, now based in Chesham’ –  but K-Pryme was born and raised in the San Fernando valley and somehow ended up here. He first met Jay at a gig in Manchester, where the two hit it off sharing the same principles and passion for positive social change, starting with food.

‘D’you wanna run a restaurant with me?’ Jay asked one evening, after K had finished playing a set. ‘Sure, Why not?’. And here they are, making sweet and tasty food to satisfy the hungry belly’s of Chesham and beyond. “I don’t have a job” states K, “I have a second family”.

Clearly a far cry and cultural canyon away from the bright lights and big city of LA, but to K Chesham is “….cosy. It’s calm and the total opposite of LA, I love it here”. It would be hard not to talk about K without referencing his father, who is none other than the legend that is KRS-ONE. But K is is his own man, and one of warmth and sincerity, a truly welcoming face to all who enter. Sharing Jay’s vision, the two of them are growing a community business with strong, local roots.

It’s clear from talking with both of them that a solid ethos is at the heart of all they do. They’ve created a vibrant, youthful and positive space, a safe and sociable place, providing somewhere to go that’s more than just food and where all are welcomed.

Building their dream and living their vision,  keep an eye out for this dynamic pair’s plans for monthly events to enhance their food and local atmosphere.
